Safeguarding
Safeguarding and Child Protection at NMS
Safeguarding our students is at the heart of our school and includes:
- Ensuring children grow up with the provision of safe and effective care.
- Preventing harm to children’s health and development.
- Protecting children from abuse and maltreatment.
- Taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes.
Child protection is a priority for the UAE and a Child’s Right Law- Wadeema’s Law- was implemented in June 2016. Child protection in the UAE includes physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, repeated maltreatment, grooming and sexual exploitation, human trafficking and exploitation by groups that teach fanaticism or hatred. UAE law requires all school staff to pass on any information that gives rise to a concern about a child’s welfare, including risk from neglect, physical, emotional or sexual abuse. As a result, the NMS Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) is required to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the law and act in the best interests of all students.
Safer recruitment
All our staff are carefully employed with our children’s safety at heart. All staff submit an appropriate police check. Our robust recruitment process includes two references, one of which is from the previous employer. Additionally, all leaders involved in recruitment must complete GEMS Safer Recruitment training, ensuring the highest standards of safety and compliance. At NMS, we also provide mandatory Level 1 safeguarding training for all our staff. Additionally, we have a Whistle blowing Policy which makes it mandatory to report any concern regarding a staff member to our Designated Safeguarding Team.
